Makchang (Malate)

Makchang マクチャン 【Malate】

Located in the Korean Quarter of Malate, "Makchang" is a popular 24-hour restaurant where you can enjoy authentic Korean-style yakiniku (grilled meat) and other Korean dishes.

Each table in the restaurant is equipped with a large exhaust duct, allowing you to enjoy your meal comfortably without worrying about the smoke from the grilled meat. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a local Korean barbecue restaurant, making it a great choice for friends or groups.

The signature dish, which is also the name of the restaurant, is "makchang" (pork offal). The offal is grilled to perfection, has just the right amount of chewiness, and the flavor spreads with every bite. They also offer classic Korean barbecue dishes such as samgyeopsal, beef galbi, and pork galbi, and if you wrap them in lettuce and kimchi, you can enjoy an authentic Korean taste.

They also offer a wide selection of classic Korean dishes, including kimchi jjigae, sundubu jjigae, yukgaejang, and naengmyeon. Of all the dishes I tried, the kimchi jjigae was the one that left the biggest impression on me. Served in a piping hot stone pot, the stew had a perfect balance of spiciness and umami, and paired wonderfully with the grilled meat. It was so delicious that I couldn't help but keep drinking the soup, and I would personally recommend ordering it.

Malate is an area where many people enjoy the nightlife, but Makchang, which is open 24 hours, is appealing because you can enjoy authentic Korean cuisine even late at night or early in the morning. It's a recommended restaurant not only for those who want to savor grilled meat, but also for those who want to enjoy a warm Korean meal as a finishing touch after drinking.
